Summer Solstice is the time when the sun is at it’s highest position in the sky as seen from the north or south pole. Sol means ‘Sun’ and sistere means ‘stands still’ so it is a time when the sun seems to standstill before it reverses direction and begins its decent back to the southern sky. It is the 1st day of summer, the longest day and the shortest night. Summer solstice is the most powerful day of the year for the Sun God, therefore Fire is important in our Celebration.
